AI & Ecology

More Impact.
A Clearer
Path to It.

Your team is doing work that matters. AI can help you do more of it. The path there doesn't require technical staff or a large budget, just a clear roadmap built around how your organization actually works.

Who this is for

Built for ecological organizations,
not tech companies.

AI & Ecology works with mission-driven environmental and ecological organizations that sense AI is relevant to their work but aren't sure yet where it fits or how to get started.

What we hear most often

Do these sound familiar?

01
Capacity
The mission is clear and the expertise is there. There just isn't enough time and bandwidth to fully deliver on it. Important work gets crowded out by everything around it, and the team is stretched thinner every year.
02
Uncertainty
There's a sense that AI could help, but it's hard to know if it actually applies to your work, where to start, or who to trust to help figure it out. The uncertainty makes it easy to put off.
03
Poor fit
The AI tools and consultants that are easy to find were mostly built for someone else. Tech companies, generic business workflows, standard office operations. Not the specific realities of your environmental or ecological work.

How AI & Ecology helps

A practical path forward,
built around your work.

Strategy before tools
Most AI consultants start with tools. We start with questions. Before anything is recommended, we take time to understand how your organization actually operates -- your workflows, your team, your data, and where time and energy are being lost. That diagnosis shapes everything that follows.
Built for non-technical teams
Coding not required, no data scientists, no enterprise software budget needed. Every recommendation is scoped to tools your team can adopt, and includes the training to make sure they actually do -- and can grow with you as your needs evolve.
Produces something tangible
Every engagement ends with a practical roadmap your team can actually follow, quick wins you can implement immediately, and a clear sense of where AI fits your work and where it doesn't.
AI is the lever, not the destination
The starting point is always your work and your mission. AI is one tool in service of that -- not something to adopt for its own sake.

About

Ecology first.
AI as the lever.

Michael Lynn

I'm Michael Lynn -- an ecological systems strategist with 15+ years designing watershed-scale natural systems across five continents. I came to AI not because it's interesting technology, but because I kept watching ecological organizations with extraordinary field knowledge lose half their impact to administrative overhead.

The problem wasn't expertise. It was capacity. AI changes that equation -- if someone who understands the work helps you find where it fits.

  • 15+ years watershed management, NbS, and landscape-scale restoration
  • Active project work across the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and beyond
  • TNFD framework credentials in development

  • Non-technical AI practitioner -- the same starting point as your team

"Most AI consultants understand the technology. I understand the ecological work -- and then show you where AI fits inside it."

Why AI & Ecology exists

When AI became widely accessible in 2023, three things held me back from embracing it: output quality, the barrier to entry, and the environmental footprint. All three have shifted enough that I changed my position -- and built a practice around helping others navigate the same questions thoughtfully.

How it works

From first conversation to working AI roadmap

Every engagement starts with listening. The process below is a guide, not a script -- the shape of each step is determined by what we learn in the one before it. Most engagements unfold over 30 to 60 days, though the pace and depth are always calibrated to your organization's needs.

1
Discovery call
A focused conversation to understand your organization, your mission, and what's prompting you to explore AI now. No pitch, no agenda.
2
Worklab
A working session with your leadership and key staff. We map how your organization actually operates and where AI could genuinely help.
3
The Blueprint
A practical AI Blueprint built around what we learned -- roadmap, prioritized opportunities, prompt libraries, and SOPs your team can use immediately.
4
Getting it off the ground
We work alongside your team through the first implementations, making sure the tools and workflows we designed fit how your team actually operates.

Let's find out if AI can help

Start the conversation.

You don't need to have it figured out before we talk. The discovery call is exactly where the figuring out begins -- a straightforward conversation about your organization, your work, and whether there's a genuine fit.

There's no pitch, no obligation, and no assumption that AI is the right answer before we've talked. Just an honest conversation about where your organization is and where it could go.
